I'm very lost today! I have traveled approximately 300 miles to visit my mother in south Alabama. I'm on a lap top and the colors are very different from my other computer so nothing seems to look right.
My mother has several different kinds of fruit trees in her yard. I love these little kumquats! They are about the size of a walnut and very sweet. I go to the tree frequently during the day and pick a few to eat.
The kumquat is believed to be native to China. It's a citrus fruit and some are sweet and some sour. Probably depending on the type it is. You eat the peeling and all. In fact, I think the peeling is the best part!

Oh the colors look good to me, what do they taste like, i don't think i have ever had one.
I do not think I have ever heard of a kumquat. I thought it was oranges at first glance. Is this a citrus fruit or more like a plum?
I hope you have a wonderful visit with your mother.
Do you eat the peel?
Oh kumquat! I love these little fruits. I do not have a sweet tooth you see and prefer a "tart" sharp taste.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Oh sister 3, I eat the peel!
I've never eaten a kumquat or seen one for that matter.I'll have to look for them in the grocery store and give one a try.Do they taste anything like an orange? Is there another common fruit that is anything like a kumquat?
You are one of the few people I have ever heard ENJOY a kumquat!! LOL, my Great-grandfather's business was fruit, he had a grove in Mandarin. He loved them, and when I was very small he told me I would like them, and instructed me to put the whole thing in my mouth and bite down. That was the first-and last-time I ever tried a kumquat. :) I don't think that's what's in the picture though, is it?
Maybe that's a different kind, the ones he had were oblong, small enough to put a whole one in your mouth, and VERY tart! :)
I don't think I've ever tried one, Dot. :o) Now I'm curious.
I used to eat these when my daughter lived in Lake Charles. They are good!
I've seen them, never tried one, but now I will.
Never heard of these but the way you describe them I think I'd like them.
I love eating these!! Have fun on your little roadtrip! :)
I tried them and thought they were nice but i wouldnot go overboard for them.

Okay Dot, (wow about that trip).
You've waxed a bit poetic from your travels, "They are about the size of a walnut and very sweet. I go to the tree frequently during the day and pick a few to eat."
(smile)
That fruit sounds yummy by the way. I would want the sweet one though.
I love kumquats - haven't seen them in ages. We had a tree on our farm, which was very prolific. Just pop it in your mouth and start chewing mmmmmmmmmm - they also make wonderful preserves.
Sounds delicious.

Never eaten one but I've heard of it! looks nice.
Great photos - if I ever eat a kumquat, I'll remember not to peel it.
I can almost taste a salad with the kumqauts, some spinach leaves and some walnuts.

Hello dear Dot:-) I'm back from my trip and now playing catch up with everyone. I've never had kumquat before and although I've heard of them, I've never seen them in our grocery stores. I so love the pictures of those rocks in your previous post, they are so fascinating!! xox
Never heard of a Kumquat...but it sure looks good and yum!

How lucky to have this sweet treat right at your fingertips!
Looks beautiful on my desktop in Connecticut!
I've heard of them but never seen one. It's so pretty: just like an orange. A cluster of oranges!
They should be arriving in my grocery soon. I always have them at Thanksgiving - they are yummy!

This is an exotic plant for me.
In our climate up North, i could not grow such plants.
Looks delicious! :)
Hope you Mother is ok and you will return to Ga. soon.
Come back soon! Praying for you.
Wow, I didn;t know that they came from China.

Cute fruit.
I was just talking about Kumquats this week with someone at work! I also was remembering my Great Grandfathers fruit grove in Mandarin. I spent a lot of time there as a child. Temples, Satsumas, Chinese Honeys, Tangerines, Tangelos, Pink & White Grapefruit, and of course, the kumquats. I liked them because I didn't have to peel them! They were sour though, but against the sweet taste of the peel, they were very tasty!
Hey Dot. Yes, Satsumas are one of my favorite! I'm in Northeast Florida. Sharon365 is my sister, by the way!
