"S" is for Sailboat

On our trip to Cumberland Island we were waiting for the ferry to pick us up when this sailboat went by. I've never been on a sailboat but I think I'd like to. Have you?

I have never been on one but I take photos of them quite often since they are running up and down the Columbia River from spring thru autumn. I think I would really enjoy it.

Dot - you must! They are majestic and fun. Would love to live on one for a year actually.

Exquisite photo, Dot. As for being on a sailbot, I've been on one once, and if I'd had the money, I would have bought one--about the size of the one in your photo--and learned how to sail it, honey!

I've not been on a small one this but I have been a three-masted schooner which was marvellous but I'd hate to have to actually handle the sails myself.

Nice boat - nice sky! Could easily qualify for a Sky Watch Friday.

PS I have now given the ABC Wednesday a try-out myself. Pleas Have look if you feel up to it!

I've done a lot of sailing over the years and absolutely love it. I love the weather extremes too. One day you're sailing on gorgeous flat water with hardly a ripple on the surface, then on another day you can be pushing yourself and equipment to the limits in heavy seas.

beautiful capture. I would love traveling with something like this

No, never been on a sailboat but think I would be the first one to get knocked overboard if I ever got on one. It is a nice photograph. I like the colors.

Annie November 28, 2007 9:27 PM

Yes and they are smooth sailing indeed.

I once went on a small sailboat on lake Windermere....Jon was driving...we got lost in the fog! I ofcourse found it all hysterical! The river police located us by my laughter! LOL! Who needs a fog horn eh???

That seems so relaxing.

Ahhh . . . the fresh air. Makes me want to run away.

From work that is.

Nice sailboat, but no i don't like water.

Susan Kelly Skitt November 28, 2007 11:29 PM

Not one this big, but oh my, I could tell you a take or two about an adventure on a small sunfish. Let's just say I got very, very, wet... I reserve comment on the rest for the sake of my dear husband who claims he never flipped a boat before in all his years of sailing.

P.S. Love the shot :)

I makes me want to go sailing to somewhere warm and sunny! Nice pic

I spent a weekend sailing round the Isle of Wight off the South Coast. I ended up very ill! But I think if you could get used to it, it would be fun. Maybe.

Nice picture. Yes, I've been on a sailboat. Our neighbors had one and we went along with them. Nice and quiet but its a lot of work. You are never still.

I never have, and yes I would like to! Beautiful picture :)

Neva November 29, 2007 4:13 AM

I have been a passenger and "crew" many times on a sailboat. They are very nice but I prefer motor boats!

imac November 29, 2007 5:37 AM

Nope sorry never have.

USAincognito November 29, 2007 6:43 AM

Heh, DOT, sorry I have not been as consistent in visiting you!! Been so busy on my end that I am lucky enough to find time to post myself! I did look over the past couple of posts and they are really stunning!! You must have gotten a new camera? The quality is excellent!!
Never been on a sailboat but would love to learn how to operate one!

smilnsigh November 29, 2007 6:55 AM

Great photo.

I haven't been sailing in a long time. I prefer my boats with motors!

My brother-in-law has a sail boat and loves to sail, so I've been on many a sailb oat. The most exciting trip I've gone on was our island-hopping sail trip around the British Virgin Islands. We chartered a 50-foot sail boat. We each had our own room and head. After that trip it was a long time before I wanted to get back on a boat.

For part of the year, my brother lives on his sail boat in San Diego. Ah yes, the sailors in my family.

(From a fellow Georgian. Love your pics!)

I've never sailed on a small sailboat like the one in your picture. I wouldn't mind as long as the water is calm.

Peter M November 30, 2007 1:35 AM

Looks like a lovely fresh day out on that boat, calm, nice

Dick November 30, 2007 3:08 AM

Very nice as long there is not too much wind and waves.
