Black Widow

My husband found this black widow in an old paint stained blue plastic bucket that he was going to use to change the oil in his tractor. We think the other spider is her mate that she killed. Not the best picture but I decided to show it anyway.

Dot, I cannot ever figure out what is going on with that author blog. I sign on, I click on author blog, I have to sign on again. I don't know how to find whatever it is you mentioned when you visited my blog. Sorry. And I cannot look at my regular e-mail where I get notified of comments when I'm at work, maybe for a few minutes at break. So, I'll try again. If you have any helpful hints, please send them my way.

Before I go, thanks for this really, really scary and good photo of the spider.

I think it's a great picture, Dot! The blue background makes the red stand out even more. Very scary!

Dot, I've been out of pocket....so I came by to check on you....great picture. I read once that spider webs are used in the cross sightings on some guns in the military and I think it was the Black Widow's web.

Dot, I finally figured out what you meant! Thanks for letting me know. Mama's as tickled as I am with this news.

Wow. Never seen one of those. Are they very common there?

The old paint stained blue plastic bucket makes a beautiful backgound. Very interesting picture. A little creepy though since I do not care for spiders.

I like the blue background - it really sets off the spider. I am glad we don't have them up this way - spiders always send me running!

Though I don't like spiders, you gave us another perspective. The whole picture is so colourful. What is that red color on her tummy ?

It is good enough, we can see the spider. I think it is better to have a dragonfly on your hand than this spider. Don't you think so. By coincidence I posted a spider photo too.

Wow, really cool picture!! You can see the red hour glass shape perfectly.
Cuckoo - that red shape tells you its a black widow. :-)

How scary is that?
I was having a shower today and one of our house spiders was lerking on the shower curtain rings.
I screamed for Jane to come to my rescue, I felt so daft, 6'1'' and 17st 5lb of quivering jelly. I seem to be getting worse when I see them in the house, yet can and do get close to take their pictures when I come across then outside ha! what a big softy.

No mistaking the identity of that spider! You got a close up there, Dot! Good job, but...ewwwwwww! It must be a 'good' year for black widows because so many people in our area have been having problems with lots of them around!!

This would be a great picture for a science class...so they could see the hour glass and never forget it!

*shiver* I hate spiders!! And I especially hate Black Widows and Brown Recluses!!! I got bit by a Brown Recluse a few years back - it caused a huge hole in my leg that left a scar for years!! Was not a fun experience!!

Great pic.
I love spiders. I find them to be fascinating creatures.
Of course I treat them with respect - as long as I leave them alone they leave me alone.
