This tree, which must be a palmetto, with it's odd looking bloom was in front of the Carnegie home. 
The rusty remains of automobiles that belonged to the Carnegie family.
We landed on one side of the island then walked toward the back. Our walk took us past the Carnegie home, over this little board walk, through the marshes, then the sand dunes, and eventually the beach. The island is approximately 18 miles long. Our part of the trip on foot was about 3 1/2 miles.

Oh, those cars slowly melting into Mother Earth. It's really quite remarkable how they will eventually disappear.
The reason I posted my photo from a year ago was because blogger wouldn't let me upload a photo last night before I went to bed. So I just resorted to that. I didn't want to stay up and didn't know if blogger would work out the kinks. But I see you did get to post; I wonder how long you had to wait?
What an interesting place.. love the tre and it's bloom, as sad as the old rotting cars are I bet they have been home to wild life and such like.
Texel is around 18 miles also, and I make walkings at/on the beach, dunes and forest like that when possible. The car photo makes me feel sad.

My husband loves old vehicles. And that picture of those abandoned ones, almost made him cry. :-)

Those are saga palms. You see them in folks yards everywhere in town. They are VERY slow growers, so to be this big says something about how old they are.
