Yesterday I was driving by this field of goats and saw a big pretty dog inside the fence with the goats. I was going real slow and trying to take pictures. He came right over to the fence so I could take his. I have no idea what kind of dog he is but I think he's a beauty!

Hi Dot.
I think the dog is a Pyrenean Mountain Dog.. doing what it was bred for... looking after stock.

Thank you Dot for your kind wishes and comments whilst I've been ill. Jane was really pleased by it all. I know I have a 'good un' there.
Mama that is a pretty dog. I would have thought he was a mix breed......I think I would have loaded him up & took him home. He is really pretty!!
Brother and Sister have the same type of dog as this. They will guard animals...I don't know if theirs do though.
That is a beautiful dog. Where did you find this dog Dot? I know where the "Sheep farm" I told you about, they have some dogs who take care of the sheep. While typing my train of thought left me and .......sheep herder? Is that what they are called? Now I know I have confused you since I have confused my own self.
It is in fact a Pyrennes dog. I have a shepherd neighbour that has two to guard his sheep. They are working dogs, not pets, and spend their whole lives with the sheep no matter how miserable the weather might be.
I once saw some strange dogs approach the field of sheep and the Sheep dog calmly positioned himself between them and the sheep and quietly intimidated the strange dogs away.
I just love that dog. I agree with old wom tigley it is a Pyrenean Mountain Dog.
Here's a little about them.
Male Height: 27-32 in. on average.Weight: 100-185 lb.
Female Height: 25-29 in. on average. Weight:100-145 lb.
The Great Pyrenees is known on theEuropean Continent as the "Pyrenean Mountain Dog". This magnificent breed is ancestor to an ancient purebred dating back from the Bronze Age between 1800 and 1000 B.C. Armed with a wide spiked metal collar for protection, they vanquished wolves and bears alike on the slopes of the Pyrenean mountains near the Franco-Spanish border. Because of the outstanding guardian nature of the Great Pyrenees this breed has earned the reputation as a loyal companion, devoted shepherd and faithful guardian of sheep.
aaahhhh!!! it's a big teddy bear! It looks so huggable.
Totally huggable pooch!
Some sheep farmers in Norway have Pyrenean Mountain Dog too. These dogs are guarding the sheep against stray dogs, wolves, bears and other wild animals.
:o]
That's one beautiful dawg, Dot.
Oh yes isn't he? Shaggy fur and a distinguished face. Nice.
Pretty! Looks part Golden Ret., maybe? But it looks like others might know better as I read the comments :) Nice doggie anyway. We have a Yellow Lab, but I all ready told you that :)
:) We all have a different answer to your dog question. I believe it is a KUVASZ
he is a Great Pyrenees they are guard dogs and he came over to make sure you didn't bother his goats. he will kill any animal that comes into the field and threateing the goats.
my son has two.
Several people have already answered what the dog was doing with the goats. I have seen them, as puppies, being put in with goats and some with sheep and they take on the responsibility of watching out for their herds. It is an amazing relationship. And the dog is beautiful.
Cute, Looks friendly too.Bet youd find out different if you were to try and grab a sheep. lol.
Monet's Garden now showing
Yes! He`s a BEAUTY! :)
What a pretty face.
What a handsome fellow or gal.
He is cute, i had a dog that looked a lot like him, we called him Bernie.

Oh he's beautiful!!
He is beautiful, and he is an Pyrenean. I had a Leonberger some years ago, and he looks almost like this, but brown. My best friend!
Yes he is a lovely doggie. He also seems to be on guard too, a bit. Friendly but... Don't "start anything." ,-)
