Cloudland Canyon State Park

Here are a few more pictures taken in Cloudland Canyon State Park. There were 2 water falls to see in the park and I thought I was going to see them. As usual I wasn't thinking too good. I kept going down stairs and every time I thought I was almost there I'd see more stairs. After a while I started thinking about how worried my husband probably was and in the back of my mind I remembered someone had told me there were over 900 steps. I think I started getting scared. There was no one on the trail but me. So I started back up and that was some rough going. I kept having to stop and let my heart calm down. I finally made it back to the top and there was my husband worried and waiting. He said I'd been gone almost an hour. So I didn't get to see the two water falls. As I was going down I did pass a man and woman going up and I asked them if they had seen the falls and they said they had but there wasn't much water in them. I guess I didn't miss much but I hate that I couldn't make it.

Dot, that was some walk you took, i am sorry you didn't get to the bottom but just as well if there was not much water.
If you get the chance to ever go to Crater Lake and you like to walk.
Take the walk down to the bottom of the lake. Going down is a piece of cake. Coming back up is well like your walk back on those steps. I did it one time and never again.
The sign says only go if in good health.

Okay, these pictures makes me for sure want to go visit Cloudland Canyon State Park. They are all so beautiful. We went last year to a state park in north GA. with a beautiful water fall. We had to climb a lot of steps, forgot how many. The going up did not bother me but the going down my knees started getting jittery.

That looks like one rigorous journey uphill! You took some wonderful pictures along the way.

I like the tree with the huge roots. The root is greater than the branches!

Good morning, Dot,

It is a good idea to walk such challenging trails with a companion since it would be even easier than normal to fall there. Once I started down a trail only to have the same feeling of fear you describe and I turned back too. I realized no one knew where I was and I doubted whether my cell phone would pick up a signal in the deep valley.

This does look like a wonderful park to visit and explore, in company.

That is another state park we never went to while living in GA.Wish we had gone there. Our girls would have really enjoyed it at the time.Sorry that you didn't make it to the falls.Reminds me of a trip we took to a state park here in WV over the summer. We wanted to take a hike to a falls. The terrain was very steep and our grandson with us.After awhile we turned around.Never made it to the falls.

That trail seems kinda like a taste of heaven -- one day you will get to see it all. Ü A phone having a gps would be able to locate you and others going back and forth and surely the park rangers?

Forget the waterfall and have a look at your own pictures of what you did see. Quite a lot according to the post.

I especially liked the pictures of the stairs themselves. Lots of perspective. Great!

Hi Dot,
It looks a beautiful place. It is a pity that you didn't make it to the bottom but I agree that it would be better to do it with someone else.Could you and your husband maybe do it together some time?

Beautiful collection of photos!

I know what you mean about being scared when hiking. Especially if we're alone in that kind of setting, it's intimidating and frightening to imagine not having the strength to get back! I'm glad you made it!

That looks like a wonderful place to walk - I love walking trails as you know. :-) Sure is a lot of steps though. Think of all the calories you burned up!!

Such a wonderful place to visit and it's a shame you didn't get to see the waterfalls but I think you made the right decision in going back up to your hubby. I've been on trails with steps like that and I know what you mean about them making the heart race!!! It's fun going down but we tend to forget we must go back up afterwards! lol xox

:) This path reminds me of the hike to Lonesome Lake in NH. Sorry you didn't get to see the waterfall but you did get good exercise in clean air. When you are alone, what are you afraid of? :) I'd be more concerned if I saw people.

Dot,

Great photos - it's been many years since I've been to Cloudland. Hopefully, I can get there in the spring, at least by mid-summer.

A decent pair of hiking boots with good traction and ankle support is always in order. Last summer, while hiking around Vickery Creek, I had to turn back because I didn't trust the Nikes that I was wearing.

Cloudland is a great park, we have been there a few times, see my post here.

I love your photo collage. There is a lot to see there without going all the way to the bottom to see the falls. The vistas from the top are awesome.
