Junkin

The property we live on has been in my husband's family since in the 1800's. I go scouting around every once in a while just to see what I can find. There are a couple places that were used for a dump area many years ago and I've found some interesting bottles and other things. This is the remains of a little pedal car like I wanted so much when I was a kid (and never got!). In my little child mind I thought I could go about anywhere if I just had one of those cars! This one probably belonged to my husband.

How wonderful that the property has been in your husband's family for so long! Interesting what you'll find in the kitchen midden, too. What a dreamy photo, Dot. Like a time capsule.

I like your narrative. I can see a little girl traveling the world in a toy car. That's a children's story in the making!

How choice is this--homemade nostalgia of the best kind. Dot, you are so blessed to be able to roam around and find bits like this pedal car. Thank you for telling childhood dreams, too.

nice use of selective colour.
when i was 3 i had a little blue car similar to this called 'smiley'- because he had a little smile sticker on the front.

The best part of wanting something is the dream. If the dream comes true it never quite measures up to the way we thought it would be.

Funny you mentioned a pedal car. I remember also wanting one so bad. And one day we visited some friends whose son had one. He allowed me to take it for a spin. And I lost interest real quick when I discovered it was hard work to peddle the thing.

You longed for independence and the open road from your earliest age, I think. Now you travel around the highways taking photos of all you see for us to enjoy with you.

We have a wooded area behind my house. If you go far enough into it, there's a rusted out car, an old dead washing machine and some things I can't identify. It's kind of creepy except for the awesome sense of history.

I should have bought my grandson one of those cars but he is too big for one now. They are so cute and I am sure they are not made anywhere as good as they were made back then. Don't feel bad Dot, I didn't have one of those cars either when I was a child and neither did my girls. And nope, my hubby didn't have one either. Your hubby is a blessed man to have had a car like that when he was a child and now to now have a wife like you.

Wow that is a long time to have it in the family, that is really neat. I would love to have that car front for one of my rooms, all cleaned up it would make a nice decor.

One can look down quite as much as look up (like tomorrow) for interesting subjects for the camera.

Oh! I remember the pedal cars! My sister and I each had one, hers was red and mine was blue! I don't remember having them for very long and I wish I knew what happened to them. I think we must have gotten them around Christmas 1967, as it was the same year that we each got one of those big life size walking dolls. The dolls were as big as us and if you held the dolls hand it would walk with you. I don't know what happened to the dolls either.
Hmmmm, I'm now suspicious....Probably my little sister gave them a hair cut and my Mom threw them out. No doll was safe in our house, every doll we both had ended up bald headed. lol

How fun! It's like going treasure hunting. Did you dig it out and salvage it?

There's a little rusted out pedal car in the woods across the highway with a T-bone dent where the 3-year old who tired of pedaling climbed into the family sedan and took it out of park. It rolled into the pedal car.

That's pretty neat.

I'd hate to stub my toe on that running around as a kid.
