Sky Watch Friday

I've been noticing this sight for several months when traveling west on I-85 between Atlanta and Montgomery. They have cleared out such a large area that it looks like they are building a city. Can it be some sort of crane or the beginnings of a water tower? I have no idea but I thought maybe someone else might know. I took the picture when I was coming back home so I was actually traveling east towards Atlanta when I took
it.

Please visit Tom if you'd like to participate in Sky Watch Friday.

I thought it was some sort of silo at first glance. I see more of that vibrant red earth there, Dot! Thanks for such interesting shots.

When I saw the photos I thought it could be a water tower, then had some doubts and guessed I should ask you ...
But I see you also are not quite certain.
Well, even so, we got a good shot... and I'm betting on some water tower!

Firstly may I say welcome back Dot... :O) Big smile to see your Sky Watch post...

I will have a look this weekend to see if I can come up with some info on the crane/tower and the site itself... That red is very vibrant.

Dot: I guess we will know which one it is when they go a little higher. Very nice picture.

Like the tilted shot.

It looks like a crane on top? Maybe something being built?

ANyway, it's a great shot! The angle is great in the second picture, and the lighting is just right.

I loved that way you angled the camera, and the red clay against that blue sky. This was a great post.

If I squint just right, looks like a outdoor waterpump for a giant?
Fun sky watch. I,m betting on Tom to come up with an answer.

I think your clouds are worth staring at so forget the scene on the ground and just look up, up. up.

The beauty of the picture depends on the look of the artist. Very good!

It's a bolt. I know you don't believe me, but they screw giant bolts like this in the ground, and that's what holds the continents in place.

Lovely colors, by the way!

I love the beautiful, soft colored sky behind the....thing. I'll be interested to know what it is if you find out!

Patty said...

I know that area, not sure what they are building but it made a nice photo. The sky looks so pretty, with the fluffly clouds

Looked like a silo to me. I have no idea what it is. I really like the perspective of the second shot. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful!

With Mr. Linky I can scroll past the ones listed and select "other" and type in the name of the meme. I promise I wasn't stealing it from anyone.. it just makes it easier for people to sign in. :)

Not a clue, Dot. I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at your recent posts, especially that robin on the fence. It is gorgeous.

A taste of Pisa, perhaps?

I think it is going to be a POWER PLANT. You will have to go back when the project is finished and take more pictures.

Sure is a big whatever...the crane scares me though

I can never figure out what they are doing when they start some new project. your guess is as good as mine. and what I remember visiting Georgia as a kid, is how red my socks would get!

Bizarre structure, but it made for an interesting shot for sure!

Great pics Dot. I really like the angle on the second photo. (I thought silo, by the way)

Have a great weekend.

I love that first picture. Sort of looks like a silo to me.

Dewdrop said...

I was leaning toward silo too, but why would they clear all that land for a silo. I hope it's not some sort of mining operation in the works...

bcmomtoo said...

I have no idea what they might be doing, but it does make an interesting photo. I like the angle on that second one.

Carole said...

I think it looks like some sort of silo also. Kind of slim one though. Hmmm...a mystery Sky Watch!

EG CameraGirl said...

Interesting shot, Dot. I sure hope no one's building another city in Georgia. Your area was in Canadian news a LOT last year because of water shortages. But, hey! What do I know? LOL.

I have no idea, maybe it is a silo?
Nice picture.

Looks like they are building a water tower. That is how our water tower looked during the construction process.

Nice weekend wishes to you from Norway.

Wonderful pics today. It looks like it is going to be a water tower to me. If there is a large housing development or something similar going in there they will need the tower to ensure there is sufficient water pressure.

maryt/theteach said...

No idea, dot! Maybe a silo...can't tell! I'm from New York City we don't see those kind of things here maybe a water tower every once in a while out on Long Island...:D

Jen said...

I haven't read all the comments, but it is the KIA plant, in Troup County. Glad I found your blog...

AVCr8teur said...

It looks like a gigantic caulking gun. I hope you took the 2nd photo lopsided and that the structure isn't tilting.

Paulie said...

I forgot to tell you I have somefthing for you on my blog. Please come and get it. Ü

Anonymous said...

I thought a silo, also, but I doubt it. You'll keep up updated, right? (It's a shame more earth is being ripped up, isn't it.)

Anonymous said...

The site along I-85 will be a Kia auto manufacturing plant and the structure is a water tower.
