Sky Watch Friday/The W.K. Wilson Jr. Bridge

This bridge is located on Interstate 65 northeast of Mobile, Alabama and crosses the Mobile Tensaw River delta.
It was named after Mobile resident General W.K. Wilson Jr., a Chief of Engineers with the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
The locals nicknamed the bridge "The Dolly Parton Bridge". Can you see why? There is also a Dolly Parton Bridge in the Netherlands.
Visit Tom for more Sky Watch photos.

I think Dolly would be honored to have a couple of bridges nicknamed after her. Very interesting architecture.

ngThe bridges are very artistic and pretty in design.. I find it disgusting to give it that nickname. I keep comparing the photos and like your teaser photo from yesterday the best because it looks like a filmstrip to me. That one would have made a great ODD SHOT too!

I hate those word verification things! This is my third try to get the letters right. I can't be that blind. . . sigh

Nice contrast between the bridge and the very blue sky !

Can you imagine having a bridge named after you because of massive.... never mind. These shots are so interesting. I've never seen a structure quite like this.

The structure of this bridge is spectacular, and it is so high that it seems that is cutting the sky. Beautiful!

Hi Dot, here I am for my at least weekly visit... It seems that Friday is a very busy day around, anyhow I'll try to catch up! The bridge is stunning! The Sky is ok, but with our 29º Celsius gorgeous blue sky here today, not much of a surprise... ;) Loved to see the Seeds and the Silhouettes, but the Chair was my favourite!
Thanks for your comments at Blogtrotter, where I’m still strolling around Bilbao. Look forward to reading you back there!
Have a great weekend!

Great pics, Dot. The bridge has an odd design but I believe that Dolly would be happy with the nickname. lol

Jerry and I went to Mobile years ago but I don't recall this bridge - we must have taken another route.

The yellow flowers, the bees, this bridge, the green, the clean (I am all sand and dirt from the road): these are powerful images for me who can only see white still. I like this bridge design and how it rises out of the land yet has a natural shape.

Rune Eide said...

I liked the angle and perspective of the second one.

chanpheng said...

Nice pictures. They set off the blue of the skies. And Dolly Parton besides, pretty funny! You might have to take it from another angle to get the full effect!
