The Blackberry Patch

We planted these thornless bush blackberries about 4 years ago. Each year we have had a few more berries and we are hoping for LOTS this year. I look at these bushes and I see jars of jelly and big cobblers. yum yum!

I planted raspberries and blueberries a few months ago. Unfortunately, I think my blueberry plant died out due to lack of water when I was on vacation. Hope you get more berries.

My home in Virginia is called Blackberry Ridge, so I guess you can figure out we have lots of blackberry bushes. I'm never up there early enough to see them blossom...so your photos are a real treat. Unfortunately, ours came with the property and have oodles of thorns. They're such a pain to pick, but oh, so worth it!

Picking blackberries is my favorite job in all the world...no kidding. I don't care if they have thorns. And I don't like eating them except in the form of jelly and pies.

I just planted a few raspberry and blackberry bushes two years ago. I'm not sure they are doing so good. Yours look great.

I will take a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of my bowl of hot blackberry cobbler please. :)

Nice pictures.

They are my favourite berries. We used to pick pails of wild ones as kids. Mum used to make blackberry and apple pies, a delicious combination if you've never tried it.
Here's hoping for lots of berries. The blossoms are beautiful.

Lovely hybrid berries! That would take a lot of restraint for me to pick, it's one for the bucket, two for me!

I think I can see one berry coming in amongst those flowers already. ;-) We pick blackberries here in August but you must harvest yours way sooner than that. I hope you get lots too!

I planted two thornless blackberry bushes this spring and two currant bushes. I hope to get one berry from each blackberry bush and I already have dozens of currants on each bush and all are still green. Can't wait to taste them.

Dot: Why I'm so jealous, I love blackberries. We had blackberries in the field behind the house but they had a lot of thorns. I love a bowl of fresh blackberries and milk eaten just like cereal.

I love the flowers of the blackberries, now you said they were thornless, I remember having to pick blackberries when i was a kid and oh the fall in those bushes were unmerciful. Oh and my calves loved the blackberries, it would be so funny to see them eat the berries out of the buckets and see there faces all colored. Well it really wasn't funny at the time because all that work i spent picking them.
Do you have Marion Berries there? I like those better as they don't have the seeds in them.
