Yellow Jackets

While the hummingbirds chase each other around the feeder the yellow jackets sit there and enjoy the sweet stuff!

I can do the spider much easier than that yellow jacket. Grr... eating hummer food! They sometimes get mean don't they? Cool on the black and yellow theme. :)

What wonderful close-ups here!

Wow!! I can't do that!!

:) I've seen this on my hummer feeders too- lol- and the humming birds amuse me- the way they chase each other away! They won't just sip together!! I wonder why!

At least you can get something to come to the feeder. They look cool against the red.

I don't like yellow jackets! I always got stung a few times every fall at the orchard...just something I knew was going to happen. I suppose they serve a purpose in nature though....

Great shots, BTW!

They will come to anything sweet. I guess that's why I've been stung so many times. Pappy

Oh Dot, I don't care for these bees having been stung on more than one occasion. I am getting new feeders that the bees can't get into. It is a great photo!

Give me the spider over yellow jackets any day - I hate any insect that can fly and sting me. I generally allow spiders to live - especially if they are outside - but will happily haul out the wasp and hornet killer spray from under the sink to go after any visible stinging flyers.

Beautiful photos, Dot, but the yellow jackets are scary. One time, while hiking, I accidentally disturbed some and they stung me all over my face and hands. It was an all out assault. Luckily it was fall of the year, so I had on jeans and long sleeves. Unluckily, fall is when they begin to get really aggressive - they don't like the cold air coming in. Be careful around the feeders!
