This looks like a nice trail! This is the approach to Springer Mountain where the Appalachian Trail actually begins. Believe me, it doesn't look this good on Springer Mountain.

Love the Archway. It looks very inviting.
I can't believe you didn't get any rain - we got 11.5 to 18 inches. There was flooding everywhere, thankfully my area stayed dry and no excessive flooding. My daughter still has water standing in her front yard. Maybe by the time the season is over you guys will get some much needed rain.

So this is where the trail begins! I've hiked the trail (years ago now) at the other end in New Hampshire and Maine. On clear days, the view from the tops of the mountains there are outstanding. ;-)
Dot: What a wonderful place to begin, I read a book of a person who did the 2100 miles and it was interesting.

Sounds good to me. I walked 8 miles on the Appalachian Trail this past Saturday in Maryland.
O! I see a bench just inside the arch! Will you post that over on our bench blog? Neat photo-- was enjoying the arch and then the rock pavement and then saw the bench that is also curved!!!!!!!!!!

One of my instructors at tech wants to hike the trail all the way to Maine and back to Georgia. I say 'go!'.
I was reading a few weeks ago, something about some folks over in Alabama wants to extend the Appalachian Trail from Springer Mountain to Alabama, because that is where the trail should actually start/end. I can't remember exactly where/what mountain they were talking about.

Wow Dot I have just come over because I know you thought up Skywatch originally. It has grown so big now and I am fairly new to it, posting for the last couple of months. But I got curious as to who Dot was. So I came.
And I saw - those shots of the spider and the wasp - absolutely awesome. The definition and contrast - perfect. The flowers are the same and the archway looks so exciting...
