Sky Watch Friday/Brasstown Bald
A few weeks ago we traveled to the North Georgia mountain area and up this winding road to visit Georgia's highest peak (4,784 ft. above sea level) Brasstown Bald.
This is the parking area and as far as visitors are allowed to go by car. The other 1/2 mile to the top of the mountain can be reached by a hiking trail or by riding up in the shuttle van.
A view from the parking area.
Our destination the observation tower. Looks like the top of the world to me!
A closer view of the observation tower
What a view!
Views from the observation tower. They say you can view four states from here. Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Wonderful post. If we ever drive cross country, (gas prices, you know), I'll try to put this on my list of stops. How great to be able to see so many states at once.
Indeed 'the top of the world'! It almost seems as if you could reach out and touch those clouds. Breathtaking views!
I love mountain photos from the road, trail and from the top looking down. I used to hike a lot in the mountains of New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine...till my knees resented painfully the hike down. Your photos are making me want to hike another mountain trail!
Happy Sky Watch!
These are beautiful pictures. Love that you can see different states at the top. Beautiful!
That's what I need... an observation tower! Thanks for the idea, Dot!
My town has a high point. It's just a hill. Nothing like that view at all. Thanks for "taking us there" today.
I kept checking back to see if you had put up your sky watch yet...got detoured for a while but thought I would check one more time...these are wonderful! I think the third from the bottom is my favorite but don't know quite why.
Once again you have posted some awesome photos. These are just breath taking!
Oh my Dot, that is a one beautiful view. makes me squimish to be on top, kind of like when we went to the Lava Butte so high up but what a view.
wonderful scenes. great skies and landscapes. you must had a wonderful time
What a wonderful trip you had!the view from the top is incredible.I like this tower ; It looks like a lighthouse lost far from the coast! It seems to be covered with wood:That's interesting. It also makes me think of the watch towers we have around here to protect us from the fires.
You showed us a very interesting place..
Wonderful photos all of them. Photo nr 6 is soooooooooo beautiful!
Have fun:)
Beautiful country...I've never been to BB so thanks for the little virtual trip.
Love the curve sign! You had a great weather day to visit Brasstown, so often it is in the clouds. We were not long ago (actually it has been a year, I had to check my blog to see).
The question is - did you hike or ride the shuttle?
Sweeeeet.. that's awesome! What a super view from way up there! Nice photos!
Have a really good weekend!

Great shots and report. Beautiful Nature.
Great shots and an excellent view :-)
Wow! I really love photos from the mountains! You've done a great job catching the view there!
The first one and the one 6 down looking out at the sky across the top of the observation deck are my favorite.
I just recently did a three day hiking/camping trip that turned into a 2 day trip, we left from Brasstown bald and hiked down then up to the appalachian trail and the head of some river or another.
Lovely place to see for sure.
I like all of those but I just love the first one from the top where the clouds are floating out there....looks like about eye level.
Wow! Amazing view from up there, Dot! Love it! I haven't been. Any waterfalls near there?
Those are all wonderful shots. I'm from NC and spend more time in the NC mountains but I've also enjoyed the GA mountains when I've been there. You really captured the beauty of the area so well and I love the sky shots.
The high point of your day.
Worth it for the pictures.
wow!
What a fantastic view this is!! Most beautiful.
Wow, I enjoyed your tour; these are so descriptive of the area! I haven't been here myself so this was a treat. thank you.
All beauiful pictures. Looks like a good windy road to drive my car on!!
Dot: Really neat post of a neat area of the country and amazing that you can see 4 states. Thanks for taking us along.
Beautiful photos, so incredibly scenic and I thought the watch tower structure was very interesting. Thanks for stopping by my blog. The combine pictures were some of my favorites also.
What a great collection of sky watch shots.
Have a nice weekend.
Love those vistas from our Eastern mountains. Great job. Pappy

What a wonderful pictures Dot! I can imagine the fantastic view! You did a GREAT job here!
Wow! What a beautiful place. That observation tower is very much like a lighthouse in a sea of mountains!
Dot, what a great post. One of my favorites this week. I felt like I went along with you. Have a great weekend.
Cheers
I am so glad that you didn't limit your post to just one photo!!!!!!! It must have been fabulous to see that view in person! (No benches on the observation tower?)
These are all excellent Dot but there's something about that one from the top of the tower - the edge of the world it seems.
Wonderful images!
What breathtaking views! I have been near there but never up the road to the peak.
Mama aint that the place you and Tony took me one time? What a clear view....if it s the same place you took me...seems like it was really foggy that day. Beautiful pictures!!

North Ga is a beautiful part of our country!

Awesome photos Dot! We have friends living in the Brasstown area. We used to live down the mountain in Franklin, NC. Our son and family are over there visiting this weekend. Small world isn't it? xoxo
Wow, those are some great shots! It really does look like you're at the top of the world.
Marvellous post! Beautiful landscapes, each photograph is also post card!
That is quite a view. I have never seen such a nice observation tower so far out in the middle of the mountains.

Beautiful! I remember climbing Brasstown Bald (well, climbing from the parking lot almost all the way up...lol) with my children when they were very little - they made it all the way up.
A fantastic view, great shots
