Today's Flowers

This has got to be one of the world's ugliest flowers. I have no idea what they are called. I first saw them where I grew up in South Alabama. They grow very low on the ground and they are well...just plain ugly. The other kids always told me "do not touch that flower or you will wet the bed!" I NEVER EVER touched one. I DID NOT want to wet the bed!
I have also seen these flowers growing in Georgia. Last week I found this bunch growing under my blackberry bushes. They are the tallest I've ever seen. Probably 6-8 inches tall and I think these are actually pretty. Can you guess what I did???? Yes, I touched one. Did I wet the bed?? Well......
NO I DIDN'T!!! Now I wonder why kids tell such tales as this. Has anyone else ever heard that these flowers will make you wet the bed?

I have seen this flower in wild flower seed and I am sure someone will be able to tell you what it is. Nice photography. You are an inspiration to me and others.

I have mine up at Canon Pixels. I hope you can see it if you have the time.

I've never seen those flowers but they seem quite pretty to me.
The first wild flower that comes in the spring from the ground here in Finland is tiny and yellow and really the ugliest flower I've ever seen. :D

Ha, I never wet my bed but I touched every flower I saw.
What cruel things children play!
I should be happy that I am the catholic well-or-over-protected child I am that I was...
No, the first picture is great! Its simply real life!

This was funny! I like how you can combine beauty with humor. Flowers are for sniffing and touching, some might even help you not wet the bed!

No, I've never heard of touching something that made you wet the bed! That's funny. But these little yellow flowers are quite pretty.

Dot,

I see these flowers all of the time around this time of year. A bunch of them were growing along side of the trail that I hiked yesterday morning.

Never heard that touching a flower will make you wet the bed....

But I know for sure that if you catch someone asleep and slip their fingers into a glass of water, the possiblity of them wetting themselves is near 75%.
lol

What strange things one hears as a child. We take that stuff with us everywhere! I enjoyed this little yellow flower. But I'm not going to touch the screen when it's on.

Ha! No I never heard a tale like that for sure. Growing up I really don't remember many flowers around my neighborhood.. Maybe just some pansies that left a lasting impression on me...

Anonymous said...

I never heard that!! and they are so pretty!!!!

We have those flowers here, forget the name, but like many wild flowers that frequent some of my beds, I allow them to go on...

West the BED? WOW what kids tell us LOL

Glad it is not true ;)

It must be a kind of wild daisies. We have a lot of daisies in Greece and we pick them the first day of May and we make wreath for our houses.

Their petals look like butterfly wings - I think they're pretty.

I have never heard that story, Dot. Bwahaha! Isn't it amazing how kids spread such stories and even more amazing that we believed them?

Lara said...

That is so funny wetting the bed LOL well i think they are beautiful, something so pretty about yellow flowers, hopefully they didn't stink that would make them ugly for sure.
Nice shot

Children (10 and under) who touch those nasty things will wet the bed that same night. People 11-20 will wet their bed on the second night; not the first. 21-30 on the third, etc. It would take five days for me, but I know better than to go touching little ugly flowers. Your time is coming, Pal! ;-)

Oh, and hey! That bottom photo is the prettiest picture of an ugly flower I have ever seen!

Shannon said...

Not sure what is is, but I am guessing it is related to the coreopsis. I don't think they are all that ugly.

Don't know the name but they have their own beauty.

Gypsy at heart said...

The color is great. I think the individual flowers are very pretty. Maybe the spareness keeps their beauty simple.

arleena said...

Nice yellow.

Malyss said...

They are not the prettiest flowers of the world, but they are not the uglier, they have a beautyful and sunny yellow.
When I was a child, where I grew up, there were old women that knew how to use flowers and plants, to cure people .If one said "don't touch this flowers", we didn't!Maybe one of your little pals had such a grandmother and knew which flowers were dangerous...

Becky said...

Well, we have those up here too, and I believe them to be Sneezeweed. I posted some on my blog woodynook creations a couple days ago. If you have a minute check it out, and see if it's the same. Let me know.
