Autumn Colors at Amicalola Falls State Park

My daughter and I visited North Georgia yesterday to view the gorgeous fall colors at Amicalola Falls State Park near Ellijay. Amicalola is a Cherokee Indian word meaning “tumbling waters". Here Smokey Bear reminds everyone to be careful with fires. Parts of our state are under extreme drought conditions.
It's easy to see why this is one of Georgia's most popular state parks.

This is the 8.5 mile approach trail that leads from the park to Springer Mountain. Springer Mountain is the beginning of the the 2,135 mile Appalachian Trail which ends in Maine.
The waterfalls are the tallest cascading waterfall (729 feet) east of the Mississippi river.
I thought these two little cars were cute and fit right in with the fall colors.
I'm participating in the Fall Color Project at Dave's Garden. If you'd like to visit him and view other fall pictures click HERE.

Such a lovely series for autumn Dot! Do those cars fall from the trees there ~ I'd take one! I am sorry it is so dry there. This was our first summer in a long time without fire warnings. I hope you get some rain soon.

Very nice colors Dot! I'm glad you joined in the project. We used to live in the TN side of the Smokies near Townsend. Those areas that connect with the Appalachian Trail are gorgeous this time of year!

Good pics, colors, Dot. I love water falls. Here's a bit: Native Americans believe that sleeping beside water falls will bring prophetic dreams.

Some really nice colors down there. It is nowhere near that pretty up here.

Hey, this looks familiar! So glad you got to come up to the mountains for fall colors and apples. You really captured the colors well in your beautiful pictures.

Very beautiful. We LOVE this place. We found it by accident a few years ago on a rambling road trip. Now we try to get back every year, usually after Christmas. Wish we could be there for the leaves! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Beautiful Dot! I just love fall!

By the way, congratulations on getting to listen to the politicians for a while longer. I understand you get to go thru another election. :)

What beautiful color and landscape! Love the covered bridge -- and those two cars in the last photo are a perfect compliment to the color around them. You'd almost think they were parked there on purpose. :)

Dot: What a beautiful Fall show you have put up today with this neat park. I love the waterfall.

Ah, so this is the park with the big waterfall...
We have been to Tallulah falls and usually hang in that area looking for fall colors. Now I know to go a bit west to Amicalola next year! I am sure we have missed it this year so will not shoot for a visit. We plan to get to Mistletoe State Park this weekend to check out our colors. The colors by the Savannah River yesterday were awesome! More reds and oranges then I have seen in our 8 years living in Georgia...

Great pictures you snapped and I need to find a tree dropping those cars!

Hi Dot,
Came over here 3 times yesterday and your photos wouldn't download all the way, so not sure if it was a blogger fault or mine, but anyway your photos are just lovely, they are so full of color, and i love the collage

I like every single one you show, and like you said, even those two little cars fit right in.

My oh my, these pictures are really gorgeous! The last time we were in Georgia, I only remember pine trees. I guess I never thought of the South having fall colors.

Those are some beautiful colored leaves. Glad to see Smokey on the job to remind visitors about the fire danger. Have a nice weekend!

A place with an Indian name;Wonderful Pictures of an indian summer..
We have the same problem here, I mean, about the fire.Every year, lots of surface are burning, only because some people don't realize how dangerous it is to light a fire in such places.Curiously, we also use the picture of a bear on panels, when there are no bears anymore since centuries around here..

I love Amicalola Falls. The first time I visited there was in the 70's when my husband and I were dating. We went back several times taking our daughters. We took our grandson summer of '06. He loved it. Lots of steps to climb to get to the top but worth every step. Glad you and your daughter got to spend time together.
