The Fields of South Georgia

A few weeks ago on my trip to South Georgia I couldn't help but marvel at the different colors of the fields I passed. The land is very flat in this particular area and the soil is so different looking from the red clay soil where I live.
A field of onions. These are not Vidalia onions because they are not in the area defined by law and by the US Code of Federal Regulations.

Weeds

Weeds
More weeds

We thought this might be oats.

Have you ever seen such pretty colored weeds? I imagine they have a name but I call them weeds.
Clover in a pecan grove.

Not sure what this yellow is.

Here you can see how sandy the soil is. We thought we were going to sneak up on this turkey.
But he spotted us and took off! These pictures were taken in Pierce and Appling Counties.

I would be interesting to see all those fields from the sky above. It must give a colorful patchwork of flowers, grasses and weeds, and different kinds of lands.I find the turkey funny! Is it wild? here, we find them only in farms..

Hi Dot. Sure is getting pretty in your neck of the woods. That turkey has had someone sneak up on him before. Sounds like the drought may have broken over your way. Happy Easter. Pappy

Nice pictures, Dot. When I see a turkey it is walking in the woods and impossible to get a picture of.

Which area of South GA.

I call them weeds, too, but they are pretty! There is this pinkish-purple weed here that has the fields pretty. I keep wanting to find a place to stop, but seems like the best are along a busy highway.

The first time I head of red soil, we had traveled to Texas to see my married sister there. I did not care for it at all. I am sure those weeds to you have certain names and probably Katney could identify them. Ü

What beautiful fields -- it's still pretty wintery and brown in our area!

You'll have to check out my March 23 turkey post!

Wow! I couldn't help but think of the song verse 'Oh beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain," - gorgeous shots!

Spring turkey season starts here soon. I saw one in my backyard this week.

I love the fields, so sweet looking. That turkey must have taken a wrong turn somewhere to be out in the open alone! As for the Vidalias, since they're not in Vidalia are they labeled as "Vidalia-ish"?

Beautiful colors in all of the fields in South GA, Dot... I wouldn't call them weeds... How 'bout wild flowers? That makes them sound a little more special, don't you think???? ha ha

The red ones may be Indian Paintbrush --since we had them when I lived in Texas.

Gorgeous colors!!!! Thanks!
Hugs,
Betsy

I've learned it's impossible to sneak up on turkeys. ;-) Te ;and is very flat, isn't it? I didn't know Vidalia onions had to grow in a certain area!

Love the "weeds" ... and the spooked turkey!

It never ceases to amaze me how different the soil can be from one area to another.

Wishing you a Happy Easter.

What great shots you captured!
Love the running turkey.
Those might be weeds, but maybe they're wildflowers! Either way, they're beautiful.

Hope you had a great Easter. What a beautiful part of the country with those fields of wildflowers. Look at that turkey take off. :)

Thank you for your comment regarding the guy poking his head out of the limo. I just happened to look over and there he was.

Beautiful weeds, poor turkey but he got away.

The red 'flowers' may be the seed heads of Red Sorrell, a weed. I can't be sure without seeing close ups. It is spectacular en masse, but not a desirable plant.

The yellow flowers are Wild Mustard, unmistakable noxious weed. Cattle won't eat it.

I think the grain is rye. Oats has a bunch of little seed heads on each stem, more flat looking. If not rye, then wheat. Rye is taller than wheat.

Your 'weeds' photo and clover photo remind me of Claude Monet's landscape paintings. Lovely.

Is that a turkey? I thought it was a mini-ostrich. It looks like the Roadrunner. I swear our turkeys are shorter and stockier. (It must be those Dutch thighs... :-D)

For that matter, the World Health Organization has listed Diazepam as a core medicine in its Essential Drug List.

Foods that acidify urine, nonetheless, can lead to a faster absorption and elimination of diazepam and therefore decrease drug activity and levels.
