Jesup Drive In

There are still a few of these old drive-in theaters left. Oh the memories of going to one "back in the good ole days"! Have you ever NOT been to a drive-in theater?

Nope. Never. The ones here in the NE were closed before I was old enough to go to one ... and we lived in NYC where there are none ... this is a great sepia shot ..

As a teen I lived on Jesup Avenue in the Bronx!

I love these Sepia scenes, they take me back years.

I remember going once -- and I was a little kid and my twin and I got out of the car and sat on benches up in the front. I think we went with an older sibling because the only movie my parents went with us was the Ten Commandments in a theater.

It always was a fun time to go the drive Inns with loading up a bunch of kids in the back of the truck and get them in free, remember doing that? Also remember most went to a drive in to make out rather then watch the movie.
there a thing of the past, kind of sad, nice photo

They are all gone from our area, to make way for shopping malls..!
I saw on TV that they are making a comeback, as people change their spending habits.
I'm not sure my kids ever went to one..

Wow, that's something I've never seen, I would really like to go there.

Yep I have and found love, trouble, popcorn, hot dogs, cigarettes... :)

There aren't any of these left in Raleigh now. The Forest Drive In bit the dust several years ago and it was the last one still standing. It didn't do a huge business anyway, which I never really understood. I guess that tinny mono speaker hanging on your window just couldn't compete with 5.1 Dolby Digital.

I still remember the last movie I saw there was "Zombies", a Night of the Living Dead knockoff. And it was pouring rain.

We do have outdoor movies on the lawn at the Art Museum during the summer, but they're walk-in (with a blanket or lawn chair).

My memories too! I was fortunate enough to get my kids into one before it closed. I love the atmosphere. Thanks for sharing. The sephia sure suits the memory.

Love the old drive-in theatres! There is still one in operation about 15 minutes from our home. The sepia treatment looks perfect for this one.

Oh that brings back lots of memories!
We have a Jessup here in MD too up the road from where I live but it has a double s and no drive-in.

So nostalgic. Rumor has it that the rare bird just up the road from us in now closed. So sad. Passing of an era.

Oh---I have great memories of the old drive-in theaters. We'd pile in the car and go on Friday nights. Then we'd get out and sit outside in benches up front that they provided.

I also remember going on dates to the drive-in with my boyfriend. Such FUN!

Thanks for the memories. Great sepia scene.
Hugs,
Betsy

Oh, yes. I have been to a drive-in theatre. In fact East Gwillimbury has one. ;-)

Great sepia, bringing out the nostalgic feel! I would love to experience a drive-in theater. I don't think that we have any here in Indonesia. But I could be wrong on this. Have a great week :).

All the ones around here have closed down...I bet it was fun to go to one.

We had one in our neighborhood when I was a child. I could see the picture pretty good when my sister and I had bunk beds.

Frank and I spent many of our dates at a drive-in theater. We had three in our area.

Very nice picture, Dot.

I have not and the last one in our county was torn down a few years ago. I love sepia but just never do it.

Funny how drive-ins are nostalgic places and it really that was not long ago that there were places like these everywhere. I think I know of one in my area but I think they are used only for flea markets. Thanks for taking me back in time!

The only kind of theatre I knew of when I was a kid. I was a teenager before I ever went to an indoor one. Our first house was around to the side of one and we could see it from the kitchen window in the winter when there were no leaves on the trees, Now it is gone. I wish I had photos of it. Thanks for sharing.

I was when I was a kiddo. What fun, watching a movie in my PJs.

Sepia tones complement this old-fashioned drive-in.

There used to be a couple in the local area, but they are long gone now. I remember us driving by it and seeing it from the highway, but I never actually drove in & watched a movie. What a great pic. Thanks for sharing & thanks for visiting my blog.

There are a couple of these left in CT, but not around the corner. Growing up in East Hartford, there was the E. Hartford, Hartford, Portland and Berlin Drive Ins= no more. The Hartford on the Berlin Turnpike is Toll Brother's housing. We kids used to be dressed in PJs and parents might bring in Martinis, etc for a date. And we had a VW Microbus, with the best view out the windshield of the taal van...

Oh, I love me a drive-in movie. I wish we still had them. The sepia is just right for this. You're lucky you have one!

This kind of scene is perfect in sepia. Drive-ins are great in the summer!

We have one in my area - 2 actually - One in Ellington 21-Drive-In & one in Piedmont, but I don't remember what that one is called. I love old drive-ins - It's a lot of fun to go, but only if there's skeeters!!! hehehe

Nice photo. I can't remember the last time I went to a drive in. It might have been to see Raiders of the Lost Ark with my oldest sister Patricia.

I love this. There are not many drive-ins left. Great subject for this kind of shot!

I meant to say... only if there's NO skeeters! Sorry!

What a perfect subject for sepia!
I was in Indiana last week and saw one not in use anymore. I couldn't get a good position to take a pic.
What fun they were.

Drive-ins simply never existed in France! For me, it's a picture of the USA in the 50ies, that I saw in several movies. So, A kind of unreal thing..

very beautiful sepia tone. wonderful treatment

Mostly replaced now, with huge projector screens at parks with the picnic baskets now.
I guess the next generation will not be able to ever know what it felt to have watch a movie in a car.

we took a group of kids to an old drive-in last summer. They had a great time. the only difference--they didn't have the speakers that hung on the window. We tuned our radio to a local fm frequency and listened to the sound on the radio.

great shot, very nostalgic

Stop by to see mysepia scene

Very nostalgic and filled with mood, especially in sepia.

Mama we dont go to the movies that much but when we do we prefer the drive in!! They really do a good buisness.

Wonderful moody picture. I love the wording on the sign!

I haven't been to a drive-in since the 70's. They are so nostalgic especially with your sepia photo. I wonder if people still go to drive-ins when indoor theaters nowadays have such great sound.

Never! Nice shot; made me wish I had.
