Waycross, Georgia

Waycross is an interesting small city in south Georgia located near the Okeefenokee Swamp. There are so many train tracks in Waycross that it's unusual to go through the city without getting stopped somewhere while a train goes through. Some noted resident's of Waycross are Burt Reynolds, Parnell Roberts (Bonanza)and Ossie Davis. The area has been the subject of several popular songs including Miller's Cave, and Gator McKlusky (sung by Jerry Reed). Ted Turner and Jane Fonda once took a detour on their way home to Atlanta to stop and eat at a Maryland Fried Chicken in Waycross. I guess animal activists do eat chicken. lol
According to Walt Kelly's famous comic strip, Pogo and the other swamp characters lived in the Okeefenokee Swamp. Waycross honors Pogo with his picture on one of their water towers.

Hey, this is finally shows for me. This appeared on my list of blogs I follow, but when I clicked it didn't show. And truth to tell, it was probably my computer. It acted really strange a few days back....

Waycross sounds like Terre Haute, Indiana used to be, and still is to a point. You could not go anywhere without considering getting caught by a train. They have built a couple overpasses that have helped a lot.

If there are train tracks it must be an awesome place. We'd be watching them for sure.

I like seeing the country like this and I don't have to leave my house. Tho, I would love to head down there to see it in person. Thanks for sharing the "fun facts" Dot.

Pogo is the cutest possum I've ever seen. Can you imagine what kind of genius it takes to make an opossum look cute?
