This picture was taken in the Resaca Civil War Cemetery. If you look closely you can see that the men were buried in circles around monuments topped with crosses. There are over 400 graves in the cemetery and I would say that 90% have "unknown" marked on the grave.

That is a beautiful picture. It is so sad for families not knowing where their loved ones are buried.
A serene scene; such a shame so many of the graves are of the unknown.

Its sad..the unknown marked graves.
Great shot though!
nice scene
What a nice tribute to these men, I like the idea of how the graves form circles leading away from the center. A very moving photograph.
Cemeteries are often works of art when you think about it...honoring those who were but whoever created this honored ones they did not know. They honored a cause.
It is a memorable photograph.
first time i've came across this part of history ;o/
A great shot...but a reminder of the pain many families must have felt...
I've always found it so sad that so many graves have "unknown" on them...to think they fought and died for their country and yet no one knows who they are! A beautiful shot!! xox
I asked my husband about the cemetary. He has been there since he grew up in the Atlanta area.He was telling all about the cemetary after I mentioned your picture to him.We have been to Fredricksburg VA and there is cemetary similar to this one.He is very interested in the Civil War so we have toured many of the battlefields.
A thought on the circles....it is like even in death these men have their arms around eachother, holding eachother close.
I enlarged the photo and saw that the cross was broken once.
Nice picture. I like to walk around old cemeteries and read the tombstones. How sad that so many are unknown here.
Hi Dot, I lot of graves in such a small place, but almost artistically done, like a piece of art... how sad for the died persons.
