There are several of these drain covers in a new subdivision near where I live. I was surprised to see where they came from. After doing a google search I found that most man hole covers are manufactured in India.
Well I'm learning something new...I had no idea that manhole covers are made in India! I'm going to have to check ours to see if they're from India as well! lol Need to have the snow melt off the streets first! I'm so loving the photo in your previous post...it really does look like a man holding up his hand!! xox
Hi Dot, I always want to learn a lot when possible through blogging from other countries.habits atc. So this is also interesting!!!! They come from india??? Ha!
Did you also know that there is right now a Harvest festivity in India? I posted that yesterday...
I showed some more about my birthtown in Holland :The Hague, The Glasshouses, and the Westland/Glasshouses, I added also some links this way you can read more about that city and surrounding, when you want that of course..
It doesnt even look like a man hole. Doesnt it have to be politicly correct now.....shouldnt it be called a "Human Hole" or a "Person Hole"? Hey that sounds nasty....maybe they should call it a "Underground Hole". That sounds better!
That it is rusty is not a good sign I would think..? I believe the PC term now is maintenance hole covers...how silly. They will always be manholes to me..! xx
Man hole covers can tell a whole story. Take a look at this one on my Norwegian Blog. You may not understand the language, but I bet you'll understand the cover! Especially if you enlarge it.
Cheep imports Dot, I see lots of stuff like this and I can't for the life of me see how it could be cheeper to make and import stuff like this. Our workers and I'm sure yours could do the job.
a little while back I collected a few manhole blogposts that I might link to in a possible manhole post on one my blogs - no such post done as yet but I still have the notes - interestingly enough it seems that India, people actually trouble steal manhole covers - see http://hyderabaddailyphoto.blogspot.com/2007/11/hole-in-ground.html
Learned something new again. I really like this photo. Maybe the texture, maybe the shape. But it all comes together perfectly. It's a very plain cover; I'm used to ornate ones.
India! Very typical in today's global economy where manufacturing moves to the cheapest area with sufficient labor, lax enviromental laws, and tax & tarrif friendly.
I work for a global mfg. co. We are now moving some product fabrication from Europe to the US because the recent drop in the value of the dollar has lowered the cost here, go figure!

Wonderful capture, great details, excellent idea
I was surprised to see that too. Our drain hole covers or man hole covers are made in this area in a foundry in Dayton, Ohio.
Come on over and read about Charley if you got time.
I thought you lived out in the country. Fooled me.
Wonders will never cease!
I will have to check with my husband and see where their manholes were made. He uses them sometimes on his jobs.
And I agree, this one was old and rusty looking.

many things used in our country are made by the poorest people on earth.

Very good post, and the photograph marvellous.
Sure it is not certain inter-country agreement.
Nothing's more frightening than a rusty one of those, though your rendition is a work of art, Dot.
My husband laughs at me because I always walk AROUND these things and those sidewalk cellar doors in the city!
For a minute I thought you were cooking on an Aga hotplate! LOL! This is so similar!
Learn something new every day! I had no idea where they were made, nor did I ever bother to look.
Who would have thought that - not I.

Hi Dot
Great photo, I like it very much.
Like you, I would have taken exactly the same angle for the shot. I'm fascinated to see where they come from!!

Looks cool and I didn't know that.
Alright you have challenged me to find a manhole cover and read it. I never knew where they came from. I love your photos.

This photo looks like it could be a wall hanging! :)
India?! One thinks of IT expertese not manhole covers coming from India!
I also had no idea that most manhole covers were made in India.I'll have to look more closely at the ones I happen to see.
