Golf Balls

About 15 years ago my brother bought a house near a golf course. Over the years he and his wife picked up stray golf balls in the right of way on their daily walks. He told me that he has 8 buckets of golf balls with 300 balls in each bucket. He has started on the 9th bucket and has 100 balls in it. According to my math that's 2,500 golf balls! He's in no hurry to get rid of them but said he might advertise them for sell in the local paper one day. After doing a google search I found that there are companies that buy used golf balls and there are also people who actually bring them up out of lakes for extra income.

Oh I love the pink one.
We live by a golf course too, and when the kids were growing up they would go looking for golf balls and sell them to the golfers. To this day I am finding golf balls around the house, basement, in their cubbies and just about every where else.
Thanks for taking me down memory lane.

Best not to hold onto them for too long though, they do get old and go bad, so to speak.

We have a company in town near the beach that does nothing but sell used golf balls they have "rescued" from lakes and ponds on local courses - they even sort them out into matching dozens for some brands!

New golf balls are expensive. My grandson would have a blast with all those golf balls and his golf club. He just keeps breaking the tees.

Green bucket with a pink ball on top - love it!
I can't imagine where he stores all of them.

Your buckets of golf balls remind me of the driving range. You had to pay a pretty penny for a tiny bucket just so you can use them for swinging practice. I think your brother's got a good "side" business. :D

Wow that is a lot of golf balls. Did you find out what they pay for them? That would be interesting.
We stayed in this rv park this last vacation and they had a golf course there. When i went to do laundry the guy had all these golf balls in the dryer banging around. Wonder why one has to dry them in a dryer? Strange

Your brother will be rich one day!

Great photos! The pink ball must be female, don't you think?

We have a golf course not far from here, my oldest lad would collect the stray balls from the woods and fields nearby. In summer when the stream was low was also good for many golf balls. He would then stand at the side with a sign and sell the balls back to the golfers.. I have seen on TV where a diving club was employed to empty a lake of golf balls... I could not believe how many were removed... I think it was over a weekend in relays, but it was like a mountain of balls

No doubt one of those balls is mine :-)

Egads...those are a lot of balls! My cat would have a time of his life if one of those accidentally got tipped over... hehehe.

Amazing collection of used golf balls. Interesting that your brother is in no hurry to get rid of them. Is this the ONLY thing he collects? LOL

I've donated my share to golf ball collectors at courses around the country. I've even put a few inside their houses for easy pick up. :)

I remember as a child going up river to the Mississauga Golf and Country Club and dive for golf balls in the river and in other water hazards. It was a pleasant way to beat the heat and make a little money.

Pardon me for bragging, but I have never lost a golf ball. (Right... I have never actually played golf.)

Since he lives next door to a golf course and has been collecting them for years, he must not "need" the money he could get from them. I think he should put them in the flower beds around his house like they do rocks for decorative purposes. Would tie right in to the golf course.

I guess he isn't a golfer sicne he doesn't use them himself, huh?

And extra income is always handy.

My connection with golf is only in the way of cars - we have had three VW Golfs ( still got one).

Counting golf balls:
One, two, three, FORE!
...five, six, seven...

Now golfing is something we don't study way down on the farm. Just not enough time to chase a ball around when there is so much more to chase around, like cows, goats, chickens, etc...lol...
Good picture and I do like the pink one too.

I love it! I live behind a golf course and my neighbor picks up balls and sells them to the golf shop and they sell them back to the golfers! Some of those balls are expensive and golfers love buying them back for 1/3 the regular price!
