The 2015 Hank Williams Music Festival Georgiana AL

My sister and I had planned on attending this festival for about 10 years.  This year we finally made it.  Some things about it were very disappointing and some things were good.  When it was all over we both agreed that we had enjoyed it and are looking forward to attending again next year.  T.G. Brown was the main attraction on Friday night.  He really put on a good show. He did tell an off color joke that I thought was inappropriate but now I can't even remember what it was.  lol.  He came out carrying a towel and kept it with him the whole show.  Since it's so hot under the lights I can't imagine why the entertainers didn't dress a little cooler.

Hank Williams Festival

Johnny Rodriguez was the main attraction on Saturday nite.  We were greatly looking forward to seeing him as I'm sure many others were also.  I must say he was a BIG disappointment.  Not because he can't sing but for the simple reason that the sound was so far off that we couldn't understand  a thing he was saying or singing.  The audience was mostly older people and I believe that over 1/2 got up and walked out.  We complained after the show to the people in the sound booth in the back of the stadium.  They said they had completely turned their sound off.  Mr. Rodriguez left the stage immediately after the show but the band members were still on stage so we complained to one of them and he claimed it was the fault of the people in the sound booth.  Since there were no problems hearing but one of the other groups I'm thinking it was the fault of the entertainers.  The Springs played on Friday night and there was the same problem with the sound only not as bad. As you can see Mr. Rodriguez had a sweat towel also but whenever he used it he turned away from the audience.  lol

Uriah Alabama

This is a very historical house.  I hadn't seen it in a while when I took this picture and it looks very different from what I remember.  It used to have some antique cars and trucks in the front.  Now it looks like someone has restored it which is nice.  I remember seeing this when we made our many trips to Little River State Park.

Gulf Shores, Alabama

All of these photos were taken at Gulf Shores on June 16. There were a few people on the beach and some clean up work going on. I thought the beach looked really good considering that I can remember how nice it was before all the condos were built and it became a big tourist area.

The Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay

I took a trip recently to lower Alabama. These pictures were taken on what is referred to as the Eastern Shore. (the eastern shore of the Mobile Bay looking towards the city of Mobile.)
It was not a good day for sunsets and had started to rain before we left. Look closely in this picture and you can see the "boom".
This is on the pier at Fairhope, Alabama looking back towards the shore. I grew up in this area and it was very unusual not to see people fishing off the pier. Most of the coastal area was closed to fishing. Although swimming was not advised I did see a few people in the water.
The Fairhope Yacht Club
A little farther up the shore on the pier at Daphne, Alabama we got a closer look at the boom.

The Alabama Band

Last year these statues were placed in City Park in downtown Fort Payne to honor the country music band Alabama. The band split up in 2003.

Lizard Love Story?

What bored people do. My mother loves it when a lizard gets in the house. At 89 that's a little excitement in her life. My mother, sister, and I watched these two lizards meeting in the window and wondered if they were going to fight or what.
They met without incident and then passed on.
Each went his separate way.
This one looks back as if he (or she) is thinking of lost love.
Maybe this one is thinking "who could love someone as ugly as me".

Odd Shots

A few weeks ago we took a trip over to Fort Payne, Alabama. Fort Payne is the home of the famous Alabama band and we saw this car located on the wall of a body shop not far from the Alabama fan club. Notice the license plate. I like the title my daughter gave me....Don't let Jesus be your co-pilot. Let him do all the driving!!
Visit Katney for more Odd Shots.

Cherokee Rock Village

About sixty miles from where I live is this fascinating place called Cherokee Rock Village.
The village is located on top of Shinebone Ridge west of Leesburg, Alabama.
This is a view of the valley and Lake Weiss from the top of the village.
Native Americans lived in this area for many years until the Cherokee Indian Removal in 1838 ("The Trail of Tears"). It is believed that the Cherokee and Creek Indians used this area for religious and ceremonial rites.
This area is very popular today for camping, hiking, and rock climbing.

Sky Watch Friday/Wind Creek Casino

The Poarch Creek Indian Tribe at Atmore, Alabama built what was known as the "Bingo Palace" some years ago. It was a very popular and busy place until the casinos started popping up on the Mississippi Coast. For a while it looked like they were going to close down. Now they are coming back with this huge Casino they are calling Wind Creek. This 16 story hotel tower is quiet a sight when viewed from I-65. Their future plans include a lake and golf course.

Spider Webs

There are lots of spider webs in my mother's yard in south Alabama so I always have to keep my eyes open or I'll walk right through one. I hate the feeling of the web on my face and arms and then I start thinking WHERE IS THE SPIDER???

Little Post Office

This is certainly not the smallest post office in the world but I think it's cute. It's located on a back road in the middle of no where. (the people who live in that community would probably not like to hear me say that!) Just for the record, the smallest post office in America is located in Ochopee, Florida.

Early Morning in LA

I took these pictures early one morning in my mother's back yard in Lower Alabama. If you look close you will see two rabbits having their breakfast.
Tomorrow I'm going back to LA for another short visit.(about a week)
Thanks to all of you who visit my blog!

The Bells of LA (lower Alabama)

These two tiny bells are hanging on the end of my Mother's clothes line. I walked by them many times without even noticing. One day they caught my eye and of course I had to take a picture. I have no idea why they are there.

Up Date...I called my mother and asked her about the bells. She said she probably was going to put them around a goat's neck back when she used to keep goats (She is 89 now and no longer able)but decided not to because who would want that thing around their neck! I asked did my stepfather put the bells on the clothes line when he built it and she said she couldn't remember but I'm sure that must have been where they came from. So..that is the rest of the story. The bells make very little noise.
