Cherokee Rock Village

About sixty miles from where I live is this fascinating place called Cherokee Rock Village.
The village is located on top of Shinebone Ridge west of Leesburg, Alabama.
This is a view of the valley and Lake Weiss from the top of the village.
Native Americans lived in this area for many years until the Cherokee Indian Removal in 1838 ("The Trail of Tears"). It is believed that the Cherokee and Creek Indians used this area for religious and ceremonial rites.
This area is very popular today for camping, hiking, and rock climbing.

It´s above the clouds and it looks great. So many great rock formations. It seems somebody still uses them for graffiti ceremonials.

Love that first image Dot!
I can see it being a ceremonial place.
Those huge boulders fascinate me the way they are sometimes so out of place.

I think I would like to visit that area. . . when I got my first computer, the first thing I searched for was "Trail of Tears." Thanks for the "tour."

My husband and I always say there is so much to see here and we only have seen just a speck of it. That's a place I have to put on our list of places to see. Beautiful pictures.

What a great series of photos Dot. That looks to be a very interesting place to explore. It appears that some of the rocks have been defaced. What a shame that not everyone can appreciate the beauty and historic aspects of this place the way that you have.

I can see why the Cherokee wanted to live there and why hikers enjoy it now. ;-)

Thank you for showing all those wonderful photos and I can see why this was used by the Cherokees for their ceremonies. Thanks for your dear words on my blog. I shall post the whole Aboriginal poem, because it's so beautiful.

Seeing this wonderful place, it's easy to understand why the Indians respected nature and adored it as a kind of God.It's not only an historic place, it must also be a place filled with spirit.
