This little Indian mound is located on private property near Helen, Georgia in the Northeast Georgia Mountains. Both the marker and the mound can be viewed from the main road but there is a fence around the mound and since it is on private property you can't go to it. I really zoomed in too much because you can't see the actual mound very good in this photo. This is a reconstruction of the mound which was completely excavated in the early 1900's. There is also a legend about the mound if you'd like to read it

Love the history, that is a large monument
Thanks for the tour. I thought it was kind of odd to have that great sign to inform visitors of the mound, but then gate it off so no one can get a closer look.

Such historical sites are taken over by the state government here where I live especially one as important as this one is. I am amazed that it is on private property.
I love Indian stories.Maybe it comes from chilhood, when I liked to see western movies .But when I grew up, I went on reading books about the story of Indians, and I'm always interested in learning more about them.

Interesting that it's on private property. I wonder if it belongs to a group of Indians now. I can understand why the owners might want to keep visitors out, though. Too many like to take away "souvenirs."

I LOVE visiting that part of Georgia! It's a beautiful area, as well as being rich in history!
(We considered buying a house in Gainesville, Ga, but decided against it! However- we sure enjoyed exploring that area!)

I've always been fascinated by the mounds. They are still a couple nearby I want to visit.
I'm not sure I would build a gazebo on top of sacred ground; but it makes for a lovely place of honor.

Ohhhh, I have been here years ago! Helen and area is wonderful, especially in the fall.
I don't exactly understand what it is but it is a historical place.
I never would have guessed that it is native American.
Maybe we can drink a cup of tea in there????lol

Mama aint these mounds the neatest things...I wish I owned my very own mound....but I wouldnt want anyone digging it up!
There is an Indian mound near where I grew up....they are fascinating when you stop to think about it....

Haven't been by in awhile but just had to comment on your pictures posted. This is about 15 miles from our cabin. We were at these spots three weeks ago....did you photograph the beautiful white wooden church across the road.....Betty
