Sky Watch Friday/Wind Creek Casino

The Poarch Creek Indian Tribe at Atmore, Alabama built what was known as the "Bingo Palace" some years ago. It was a very popular and busy place until the casinos started popping up on the Mississippi Coast. For a while it looked like they were going to close down. Now they are coming back with this huge Casino they are calling Wind Creek. This 16 story hotel tower is quiet a sight when viewed from I-65. Their future plans include a lake and golf course.

Nice Sky watch photo. It's great they did not close down....the same thing happened in Oklahoma...used to be huge bingo places, now casinos and they don't mind taking all the "donations" from the Texans just over the border.HaHa.
Have a great SWF.

A water tower - yeah!
Great shots Dot!
I visited an Indian casino in Connecticut a few years ago. It had been small but on this visit all of a sudden you turned a bend in the road and it was a huge place.

I think I have seen that tower before. Never been to a casino though.....is this one of your regular stops when visiting your mother? ;)

I hope you like bingo ( I don't ) the sky is very bright.

Those are amazing skies! I really like the second photo with all the lovely colors. It seems casinos are everywhere now. There is one in the city (an hour's drive away) where we do our shopping, etc. and it's a thriving business judging by the number of vehicles in the parking lot. I've never been inside it, not really a gambler, I guess.

I just love water tower shots!

Those are great clouds. If I were emperor of the world (imagine that!), I would outlaw all gambling. It keeps the poor people poor, and many who do not gamble end up paying for what others have squandered. That's my opinion, anyway.

Great captures as always!

Have a nice weekend.

The clouds are gorgeous, and that casino would be lots of fun I bet. We have one not far from here and it is doing great.

Love the fluffy clouds. Not into bingo or gambling, so I'd give the place a miss.

Get the white eyes to enrich them with gambling - some kind of pay back perhaps.

those clouds look almost not real, not sure how to describe what I mean.

Love the photos though.

Love the big sky in that second photo...I had to look a second time to realize how big the hotel is.

As for what was over that tree in my second photo, your guess is as good as mine. I could not tell in the original sized photo either. I wondered was it a butterfly or a leaf, but what I really and truly believe is it is something stuck to the windshield!

P.S. Regarding your question - I wasn't on the plane ;-), this waterfall, Kravica, is, how could I explain it - downhill - so I climbed up and took the picture when I was above the rives. Bye and greetings from Croatia

Those clouds really give the impression of wind Dot! You always take such great photos!

I know that the important thing is the sky and those beautyful clouds, but I'm very interested by the story of the place.
In France, we always hear on TV that Indians build a lot of casinos and earn a lot of money with them.In fact, each time we ear of Indians here, that's about this kind of "revenge" they take about history..;I wonder if it's true..

Tina Leigh said...

Well that is just what Atmore needs is a big casino so that when the prisoners get out they have some place to go! CRAZY! The Creek REST.....I remember that name mama. Did we ever eat there...whats with that place....someone commented about it.

Interesting information and nice blue and white skies.

Great Skies. Nice photos. Happy SWF!

My husband has done some work on that hotel. They are definitely looking to expand.

I hope they find a way to blend all of this into the landscape. There is a casino in Connecticut that is a blight and a half. The towers loom over the rolling hills like the Emerald City gone very wrong.

I love the water tower shot; I think of you whenever I see one.

Lilli & Nevada said...

Aah there you go again with a water tower i need to post a few more maybe we should have one blog just for water towers LOL
Love the sky with the beautiful clouds.

We have quite a number of Indian gambling casinos in California. Haha, another water tower. HappyOne is correct, everytime I see a water tower, I do think of you.

:) The sky is an ever changing and fascinating subject.

Dina said...

Interesting. But I like your clouds more than the casino.
Happy 2000th post on "Picture This"!!

What a pretty sky. Several years ago, they built three major casinos in Detroit (I used to live in a suburb). The casinos thrived for a while, but I recently heard one was shutting down. I guess it's another sign of Detroit's faltering auto business.

Nice, eye-catching scenes for SkyWatch! You are the mother of SkyWatch....is that right? Greetings from Iowa.

Good day, sun shines!
There have were times of hardship when I didn't know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright pessimistic person.
I have never imagined that there weren't any need in large starting capital.
Nowadays, I'm happy and lucky , I started to get real money.
It gets down to choose a proper partner who uses your funds in a right way - that is incorporate it in real business, and shares the profit with me.

You can get interested, if there are such firms? I have to answer the truth, YES, there are. Please get to know about one of them:
