I think I drove by these when I detoured to get a look at Plains :-) Never did stop to get a photo. Glad you did!

That cotton is an amazing plant. Thanks for bringing me up close!

Very cool shots, such history behind these plants. The first time I saw a cotton field I went out to pick a bole, Oh not good, my finger bled for quite a while. Those things are stickery!

Your photos say it all!

Until I moved to OK I never realised cotton grew like this - wonderful piccies.

Most of the cotton here is gone. All thats left to do is for the module trucks to pick up the cotton modules and begin hauling them to the gin. Nice shots!

I love these shots of the cotton fields. The song playing was a nice touch.

Dot, you must have did this post just for me...I have wanted some cotton seeds forever. I know I would have to start them inside and don't know if they would transplant...but I have always wanted to see it grow. I am so glad you posted these!

Great shots, Dot. We have cotton fields in CA, but not very close to Murrieta. Love the music, too.

Dot,
These are familiar pictures...many fields in our area with cotton ready to be picked or big rectangles of picked cotton ready to be transported.....

Wishing you a blessed Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of our Savior....Betty

I have never seen cotton fields personally. It sure looks lovely. Are these still picked by hand?

I didn't take any photos but the fields here looked like that about 6 weeks ago. Seeing your photos reminded me of when I was a kid and would go to see my grandparents in Heard Co. GA. Grandpa always grew a small field of cotton. Being a city kid it looked like it would be fun to pick. I can remember clearly that it was NOT..It stuck my fingers and hurt. He had a bulap sack that we put the cotton in. Of course now days machines do all the work, but the memory remainds every time I see those fields

I haven't seen cotton growing in a long time - love the stacks, I've never seen that part.

My Mom picked cotton as a young girl in Virginia but I never really saw photos of it before. Interesting.

Dot: That is a neat look at the cotton fields. What a great view of the bales. I still remember the first time I saw a cotton field when in the South.

These are wonderful photos of the cotton fields. I've seen cotton growing but NEVER seen it in bales. I LOVE this post!

Something we don't get to see here Dot. It looks just like the cotton balls we buy at the drugstore are just picked straight from those plants! The field photo is the southern version of snow in the Ontario farm fields ... and not so cold!

Since I did not grow up near cotton, seeing a cotton field always intrigues me. The first time I saw one, it was so hard to imagine that the cotton I used actually grew in fields like that. I love that part of your world!

When we imagine the south of the United States, this is exactly this kind of picture that comes to our mind: fields, sun, cotton..(Add Rett Butler and Scarlett O'ahra, and the picture will be complete...Ü)
And once more, I adore the music that goes with it!

I had no idea how this was done ... thanks!

Beautiful pictures. The south is unique, isn't it? At the Civil War Museum in Kennesaw, they had one of the first cotton gins used - I'll find the pic later today and send you a copy.

Lovely Dot. Rose and I have been wondering if something had happened to you. It's good to see you back on here.

Cotton fields are one thing I miss about the south....Trivia. The cotton was invented by Ely Whitney in Savannah when he was staying at a plantation there and was in love with the owners wife. Supposedly the concrete base is somewhere in the woods around Port Wentworth. I looked for it but couldn't find it.

Hi Dot!
Thank you for your visit, you have a fantastic blog, I will continue visiting you.

Can I use the image that you have of " The World in Black and White " in the left side bar to put it in my blog also?

Regards

I remember touring the South with my parents back in the 1950's and seeing all the cotton fields. We even stopped by the side of the road, and picked a cotton ball to bring home.

Congratulations.
Beautiful cotton fields. Great your white World.

I knew what your chosen song would be before it cued up. Most of our cotton here is in before September 1st. You could have used "Rotten cotton, broke elastic, hang down white sox blues" too. Pappy

Hi Dot,

I liked seeing your pics of the cotton fields.

You may know that I have written a lot about my husband growing up in north Alabama - and he certainly has lots of stories about cotton! ( Farm Stories of the Past- it's on my side bar.)

We love our fields of cotton too! My favorite time is when the fields are white with cotton, but no harvesting has started yet. Looks like fields of snow for forever!
