Cotton
Georgia is one of the major cotton growing states and these fields in South Georgia were at their best a few weeks ago. The cotton in this field looked to be at least 5 feet tall. Look closely and you will see both white and pink blooms.
First the blooms are white.
Then they turn a pinkish color.
Then the flower withers away and grows into the cotton boll ready to be picked. Isn't that an amazing plant?

What a neat post! I never knew that about cotton blossoms. Just beautiful! Then the actual cotton is really neat too. Thanks for the "tour."
"The fabric of our lives" It has always fascinated me that a plant can be turned in to such beautiful fabrics. you've done a wonderful job showing the plant. Good to see you blogging.
Interesting! I've never seen a cotton plant (I live up north!) and this post is great! Thanks for sharing.
Ahhh cotton! We might not have snow, but fields of cotton are a decent substitute!
Yes it is amazing! I love a cotton field. They are picking cotton down here now.
It is a very interesting plant, I didn't know the blossoms change color. I've never seen a cotton plant.
Hi Dot!

Hello there Dot...
It was real nice to see your name in my comments today...
Our town was built on Cotton... at one time it was only small farms around here... sheep were kept by the farmers and the family's would weave the wool... years later cotton mills sprung up in the valleys and took their power from the river.. housing was built to house the workers, shops to feed them, schools and churches and everything else followed. Like many towns in the northwest of England cotton was 'King' both my mother and father worked as weavers, carders. Mum and Dad met at the mill, so cotton as you see was a big part of their life. And for a while I also worked in a cotton mill.
All this from the humble cotton plant. ha!
Hope you are well Dot.. I will call be soon...

Great post, Dot! Envy was fascinated to see where her socks come from. Come to think of it, I think that I have a pic of a 19th century cotton gin that I took at the Southern Museum a few years ago. I should load it up and spot your post. :)
I never knew that the flowers changed colors like that. How interesting. Thanks for the cotton lesson.
Thank you for that post. I always wondered how that worked.
I've seen the cotton up close but not the blooms. They remind me of hibiscus blooms.
It ruly is an amazing plant and so pretty to see in all its splendor. I can recall the first time I saw it while dring past a field I actually had to stop and view it more closely!
Cotton is southern snow.
Wow, dot, I've never seen cotton plants, the flowers (they turn white to pink?) then the bolls. Amazing! :)
