Georgia is one of the major cotton growing states and these fields in South Georgia were at their best a few weeks ago. The cotton in this field looked to be at least 5 feet tall.
Look closely and you will see both white and pink blooms. 
First the blooms are white.
Then they turn a pinkish color.
Then the flower withers away and grows into the cotton boll ready to be picked. Isn't that an amazing plant?

dot, loved them ole cotton fields.
I see them along I-16 as we go to see my cousin in Marietta. I keep saying I will stop some time and take some photos. I will be sure to stop next time Thanks for sharing.

It was real nice to see your name in my comments today...
Our town was built on Cotton... at one time it was only small farms around here... sheep were kept by the farmers and the family's would weave the wool... years later cotton mills sprung up in the valleys and took their power from the river.. housing was built to house the workers, shops to feed them, schools and churches and everything else followed. Like many towns in the northwest of England cotton was 'King' both my mother and father worked as weavers, carders. Mum and Dad met at the mill, so cotton as you see was a big part of their life. And for a while I also worked in a cotton mill.
All this from the humble cotton plant. ha!

I've seen the cotton up close but not the blooms. They remind me of hibiscus blooms.
It ruly is an amazing plant and so pretty to see in all its splendor. I can recall the first time I saw it while dring past a field I actually had to stop and view it more closely!
