Gulf Shores, Alabama

All of these photos were taken at Gulf Shores on June 16. There were a few people on the beach and some clean up work going on. I thought the beach looked really good considering that I can remember how nice it was before all the condos were built and it became a big tourist area.

What fabulous views those are...isn't it strange how tourists are an asset in one sense but in another they can kind of ruin things.

Well it is beautiful & I didnt see anything (doesnt mean the oil wasnt there) but yes I will stick to Jekyll Island!

Love the white sand Dot. I remember visiting the Florida Gulf shores, and the beautiful sand. I fear for all the Gulf coast residents and those who depend on it for their existance.

Such a beautiful beach, Dot. I've been there before, it's been many years, but it so beautiful - just as as all of the beaches are in the Gulf.

What is happening with the oil spill is a terrible thing - it makes my heart sink.

It's mind bending that the gov has been throwing up so many roadblocks to cleanup and such.

Greg Evensen over on News With Views.com had this to say about response to the oil spill, etc:

"The government of the United States in this crises, cannot find its a-- with both hands and a Chinese made, Wal-Mart sold, genuine, guaranteed, remote controlled, a---finder."

lol

Sad, but true. I hope what is being done can help to save some marine and wildlife. But I don't think the effort will be very effective until the leak is stopped completely.

Mom and I are headed to St. Pete, Florida next month - I'm afraid of what we will find.

It looks great, the sand is so white.

We were at Gulf Shores May 22 - May 29 before the oil came in. It was beautiful then. Your pictures look beautiful yet so quiet and abandoned.

Miss you. I sent you a personal email about a month ago but never heard back from you.

It is so spacious and uncrowded. I wonder how heavy the consequences of the oil spill will be. It is difficult for me to imagine that when I'm all the way up here in (near) Chicago.

I do not know the beaches of Gulf Shores but they look beautiful. This spill is such a tragedy for everyone and the animals – I hope they can stop is soon.

I'm from La. originally. That state can't catch it's breath. Wish they would have let Jindal handle from the beginning. he was ready and was stopped. things were in place to roll... Also, so much help was offered from other countries who have experience w/dams/dikes,etc. Well, enough on that, we are hopeful the jet stream here will protect our beaches, as it does with us from the hurricanes so far.

My son and his family head there every spring. It's a beautiful place but I've never been.

Dot,
Those beaches are beautiful. The white sand is gorgeous. What a tragedy the oil spill is. Dot, thanks for coming by my blog the other day. One week post starting to eat more healthily, I've lost 3.5 pounds. That comes from reducing to one dessert a week and one fatty breakfast. I was really overdoing it there. You take care... These are lovely shots. I have been following the oil disaster and am always interested in pictures and comments from those who are there. We see and hear nothing here except what makes the national news, which is precious little and often not trustworthy. I am so thankful that they got a cover on it, finally, I hope it holds.
Thanks for visiting.

Fabulous photos. Easy to see why so many people want to live there.

Took my frist Gulf Shores visit last year. It was awesome even though it rained most of our visit. It was spring and chilly too. The beaches were so beautiful with the white sand. I hope the oil spill will not harm too much. We will be visiting Mobile this Dec as we are taking a cruise out of there. Looking forward to a day early so we can enjoy Mobile a bit...

Hi Dot,

I came back to see the wonderful sand beaches of Alabama.
I'm enjoying 3 weeks at the seaside in the Spanish East coast, but the sand is not as white and pure as it is in your pictures...

I hope you're having a nice summer!

Leni.

If the beach can look like this AFTER the oil-spill (and some money used) I do not want to say no to developing oil industry in Lofoten Norway.
Thanks for helping in my decision
